Style Crush: Miss Lana Del Rey

Oh hey blog-sphere!

I have always been quite sporadic with my blogging- probably due to my immense amount of University work (and going out to town quite alot...). I finish my degree in June (eeek!) so I plan to blog lots and lots after thats all out the way!

On the bright side I was so inspired by a passing video on MTV that I just HAD to do a post! Lana Del Rey has been floating around in the fashion ether for a while now, but with the release of her New Album 'Born to Die' (a name shared with its glorious title track) and her march 2012 uk Vogue cover, she burst spectacularly into my fashion consciousness in a spray of pin up styling.

Along with Zooey Deschanel of 'New Girl' fame, she is popularizing a very pin up/ vintage/ mid twentieth century vibe. This is a great era of fashion- one which is well known to be because of my dissertation, and it certainly seems to be increasingly popular now, especially in the zany world of Brighton where I live.

A massive part of her appeal is the subversive nature of her look: Veronica Lake waves with flowers permanently adorning, contrasting with knuckle duster rings and fierce sharp styling.
She described herself in Vogue as a 'Gangster Nancy Sinatra' or 'Lolita got lost in the hood'

Heres some lovely snaps of Lana in the aforementioned Vogue article, shot by mastermind Mario Testino:

(this one above is my iPhone Screen lock, the boyfriend loves it)

The breath takingly beautiful:  'Born to Die'
